First Timer Builds a DIY Electric Fireplace Bedroom Accent Wall

Adding an electric fireplace media wall to a bedroom can seem like a daunting do-it-yourself project. But, with the right tools, DIY creativity and an easy-to-install Touchstone electric fireplace, you really can do it yourself. Ideal for professional builders and DIY novices alike, Touchstone fireplaces are simple to mount, plug in, operate, and customize.

To inspire fellow DIYers, YouTube vlogger Francesca Jeanette shares her first do-it-yourself fireplace media wall in detail, from start to finish. This bedroom accent wall project features the 3-sided Touchstone Sideline Infinity Smart Electric Fireplace.

Francesca selects the Sideline Infinity to add luxurious vibes and warmth to her master bedroom. At the start of the process, she shares, “I’m so excited because I’ve seen so many pictures of this fireplace and this will be my first big project where I am doing a lot of cutting with wood and 2x4s. It’s my first time installing an electric fireplace.”

Easy 3-Sided Sideline Infinity Installation

The deeper 3-sided Sideline Infinity Electric Fireplace is especially easy to place in a simple bump out wall frame. The fireplace can rest on a base within the surround and can plugged be into a standard electrical outlet. Alternatively, this smart fireplace can be recessed into an existing wall and hardwired by a professional if desired.

For the frame of the fireplace wall, Francesca first nails a base for the fireplace into the wall. She then adds 2x4s on both sides, extending to the ceiling and installs a top plate. The front frame has an opening for the TV to be mounted above the electric fireplace.

Rather than adding drywall to the frame, Francesca opts to finish the wall with shiplap wood. She paints the shiplap accent wall a "moody" gray color to add visual contrast and complement her neutral room decor. She chooses the crystals to accentuate the vibrant flame colors.

Francesca explains, “I am so amazed by how this has been working. Even in the construction phases, we’ve been using this fireplace. It kicks out a great amount of heat. The colors are beautiful. I love that I can change the ambience from high flame to low flame, make it bright or dim, and change the colors based on my mood for the day.”

A Job Well Done

Completing the project, Francesca shares, "She is not perfect, but she was done by me." Before building this masterpiece, Francesca watched a lot of YouTube videos, joined a media wall building Facebook group and made good use of Touchstone product resources.
